hi to all hackers out there :-)

history:

nearly 2 years ago i bought a mio p330 for car navigation and it worked well for a few months. then i had to send it in the first time - no satellite signal anymore (chip doesn't send any nmea data anymore)

they changed the mainboard and i got the device back - it worked until june last year :-). then there was a problem with the power supply, i sent it in and got a new mainboard again. well, ok, could happen.

so.. in july this year the gps doesn't work again. this time i got NMEA data, but without any satellite or position information (just blank, empty nmea sentences, even after hours of trying to get a signal). i sent it in again, and.. they only changed the language of my windows CE from german to english :-(. device still doesn't work, and i wasn't able to reach them that they fix their mistake. - so i gave up.

what i want to do:

buy an oem-gps-receiver-board and connect (solder) it to the serial port on the mio's mainboard.

question:
(1) has anyone done this before?
(2) where can i find the serial port on the mainboard? (rxd, txd, gnd, ...)
(3) are there even some board schematics and other "internal" data available?
(4) or does someone know someone directly from mio to get my device repaired? :-)

thanks in advance!

It's really nothing personal...

I wonder if it'd be easier to get a used Mio with a cracked screen, and use the boards from that one in yours.  Seems to be less trouble than soldering/unsoldering stuff on PC boards.  I've done work like that in a previous life, and it's not easy unless you have the right tools and LOTS of patience.

Good luck with your quest, and let us know how it turns out.
